Why Is This Spring-Blooming Plant Called Pigsqueak?

The main ways to tell the different types of pigsqueak apart are by their size and color, especially the flowers. 

This cultivar grows 16 inches tall and 24 inches wide with red stems and pink blossoms.  

inter Glow 

Has white blossoms. Like Winter Glow, it can grow to 16 inches tall and 24 inches wide, although it's usually shorter.  

Bressingham White 

The shorter version grows to 10 inches tall and 12 inches wide. White or pale pink blooms.  

The Angel Kiss   

Possibly the largest Bergenia, reaching 24 inches tall and 18 inches wide. It has deep rose-red blooms and red stalks.  


Green-yellow variegated leaves. The mid-sized Bergenia grows to 16 inches tall and 18 inches wide. Flower color is magenta-purple.
