The Best Potstickers Recipe

Potstickers are soft dough-wrapped ground pork, mushrooms, cabbage, and seasonings fried until golden brown. A simple recipe for making this Chinese favourite at home.  

– 1 pound ground pork – 1/2 cup shiitake mushrooms finely minced – 1 cup shredded green cabbage – 1/4 cup green onions thinly sliced – 1 tablespoon soy sauce – 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil – 1 teaspoon cornstarch – 1/2 teaspoon salt – 1/4 teaspoon pepper – 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger – 1 teaspoon minced garlic – 32 potsticker wrapper – 3 tablespoons vegetable oil


In a large bowl, combine pork, mushrooms, cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornflour, salt, pepper, ginger, and garlic. Mix thoroughly.  


Step 1

Flatten one potsticker wrapper. Cover remaining wrappers to avoid drying. Put under 2 teaspoons pork mixture in wrapper centre. Brush wrapper edges with water.  

Step 2

Fold and hold the half-moon wrapper. Fold the wrapper top to pleat. The post provides photos for each stage. Use remaining wrappers and filling.  

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large pan on medium-high. Put 6-8 flat-sided potstickers in oil. Brown bottoms in 2-3 minutes.  

Step 4

Add 1/4 cup water and cover to steam potstickers. Uncover the pan and reduce heat to medium after 3 minutes.   

Step 5

Cook for 3–4 minutes to evaporate water. Use remaining oil and potstickers twice more. Serve now.
