Simple Scalloped Potatoes And Ham Recipe

Thinly sliced potatoes in cheese sauce with diced ham are cooked to golden brown perfection in this scalloped potatoes and ham casserole. Delicious main course or side dish that usually receives excellent reviews!  


– 4 tablespoons butter – 3/4 cup onion diced – 2 teaspoons garlic minced – 1/4 cup all purpose flour – 3 cups milk – 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt – 1/2 teaspoon pepper – 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided use – 3 pounds Russet potatoes thinly sliced – 2 cups ham diced – 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley – cooking spray



Heat the oven to 400°F. Prepare a 3-quart baking dish with cooking spray. Butter melts in a big pan over medium heat. Cook onions for 4-5 minutes until tender.  


Cook garlic for 30 seconds, stirring regularly.nMix in flour and fry 1 minute. After adding milk, stir it into the pan. The sauce should simmer after adding salt and pepper.  


Cook 2-3 minutes until thickened. Stir in 1 cup of cheese after removing from heat. Start with half the potatoes in the pan. Put half the gammon on top. Top with half the sauce and 1 cup of cheese.  


Repeat with remaining potatoes, gammon, sauce and cheese. Bake 50 minutes under foil.  


Continue baking for 20 minutes until top is browned and potatoes are soft. Cover with foil if the top browns before the potatoes are done. Wait 5-7 minutes. Sprinkle parsley and serve.
